Spatiotemporal Variations in Water Flow and Quality in the Sanyang Wetland, China: Implications for Environmental Restoration

Spatiotemporal modeling of wetland environments’ hydrodynamics and water quality characteristics is key to understanding managing these ecologically important areas’ physical environmental properties. We developed a two-dimensional numerical model based on the MIKE 21 module analyze flow pollution dynamics in island-dominated Sanyang eastern China. Three simulation periods representing annual precipitation cycles were used freshwater discharge wetland. The results showed that velocity study area had hydrodynamic typical such setting, with an average monthly ranging from 0.01 0.04 m/s, contributing increased risk serious eutrophication. problems (represented by ammonia nitrogen, NH3-N, total phosphorus, TP, levels) peaked during early summer peak rain season, followed gradual decline later flood period lowest values fall/winter dry period. Moreover, spatial distribution NH3-N TP levels decreased northwest east, reflecting influence highly polluted source. Our provide useful context for restoration efforts other similar areas.
